I have the opportunity to climb the peak of the mountain which took us about 4 hours just to get there. The path was to steep and nerve-wrecking but it was a satisfying experience.
We climb there on Lenten Season, time for reflection, and I did. The experience was so memorable to me because that was the first time I engaged in an activity after I got injured with an ACL. Also we met our housemaid (back when we were young) living in the small barangay near the peak of the mountain.
It made me realize a lot of things especially on Family and People.
- I came there with my family and relatives. We’re the young ones getting excited with the trip to a place we never imagined going. With us are our parents, uncles and aunts, they were also taking on the challenge of climbing there despite their age and numerous reasons not to. Being with Family makes the climb bearable. Family tend to encourage one another and lift each other up (figuratively and literally speaking). Family is an important component of life that we tend to neglect but it is on of the things that is constant in a changing world.
- As I mentioned earlier, We met our ex-housemaid. We spent almost 3 years with her taking care of my younger sibling among other things. We liked her since she was one of those who lasted more than a month (believe me it’s a very short list) but due to the request of her father she went back home to marry the one her father had arranged for her. She was from a mountainous area from our town and there she was in a mountainous area of another town. She was happy as we was seeing her. Now, she has 5 children and she’s working with her husband in the other side of the mountain. Seeing and experiencing a bit of their life made me think that there were still unfortunate people who were deprived of access to health care, to a nearby school since her eldest child had to walk for an hour or so just to reach the bottom of the mountain to go to school in the next barangay, and access to opportunities that may elevate the quality of life they had. At the same time, I felt that they were perks of having a lif such a theirs. One of those is the cold and pure water coming from the springs, bountiful harvest of crops that they grew there and the clean air that I surely miss. They have a simple life and have simple dreams. I hope that most people would realize that there were others such as Manang (who we call her) that lived with even less than what we normally have. We should be thankful for what we have and appreciate the strength of people despite of adversities or unfortunate circumstances.
God really do wonders in things even if we least expect it. More than reaching the peak and seeing the magnificent view from above, I gained experiences, learnings, realizations and most of all seeing a familair face in an unexpected place. This makes me believe in more on God, family and people.
I Believed Once is about the reality of how news can change the landscape of history and human perception on things. The social media interaction also leads to damaging reputation and even lives if people weren’t responsibile enough to respect certain boundaries.
Nowadays, people write whatever they want even if it degrades others because of the animosity in the world of social media but it shouldn’t be that way. People should learn to lift others when they feel down. People should be compassionate to others despite not knowing them personally.
Animosity should be coupled with Social Responsibility. It’s not an excuse if you are a nobody in social media, when you say something you should be responsible to the consequences of your action. I hope that people shouldn’t rely mostly on online interaction but we should expose ourselves in the world with real people to talk to and create memories with them. This is how things should be.
I consider myself as an advocate for womens’ right and a feminist who value equality between gender. I tried myself to be gender sensitive and to look at the two face of the coin before creating a conclusion. I also believe that strong modern women can be who they want to be and do what they wanted to do despite of gender biases without breaking any laws.
I didn’t met any person who shared the same sentiments as mine but I’m sure there are those who are in the shadows. This is not about me but my views.
Recent events showed that there are high ranking people using their sex or gender as an excuse and claimed that violations occured, inequality of treatment and as such just to get the public sympathy and to evade persecution due to their unlawful ways. It pains me just thinking about it because we female are asking for equality on the treatment, compensation and job opportunities with our male counterparts yet there are these people who stains this cause.
They use inapproprietly the law on women and fits the advocacies of females rights on their cause as fronts to shield them from liability or even law suits. We are empowering women to be independent and with principles but the high ranking women officials are setting a bad example. They became dependent to those who gave them power and their so called principles exist no more as they were tinted by biases and altenative truth to protect themselves and their allies who break laws one way or another.
They were the group of women who poses as strong individuals in public eyes yet they were being manipulated, knowingly or unknowingly, by dominant person/s who are hidden in public view. They are the group of people who allow other people to exploit them to show the public of their vulnerabilities as an excuse to commit crime. They think of their flaws as women as a free pass to do unlawful things.
These thoughts that such group of high ranking women exists not to uphold the true essence of being a woman but to use whatever laws available as a security blanket to escape their prosecution angered the inner me. Their actions will create a riplling effect and the most affected will be the women who are not in power, they are the regular housewives, employees and women who strive for their family, starts at the bottom of the chain are the ones who really are strong, independent and modern day women heroes who fight injustice daily. They are the underated fighters who are facing daily challenges of injustice, inequality and discrimination yet their victories were overshadowed by the negative popular opinion of the public created by powerful women who only cared about their status and position in the society.
To give benefit of the doubt to those women in power who unjustly uses of womens’ rights to evade justice, I would leave positive outlook in the matter that they will acknowledge the wrong doings they’ve comitted coz as an ordinary citizen of this country I assume that since they’re holding powerful positions, they’re educated enough you know what are the consequences of their actions.
I hope that one day there will be true equality and equal opportunities to both men and women. I also hope that highranking women will realize that they should be accountable to their actions without the expense of other people. I also hope that laws should not only be about women being abused rather include also those men who were victims too. Protect everyone regardless of sex and gender. Acknowlegde the fact that their ar biological and chemical differences among sexes but this is not a hindrance to equality as we all humans have the ability to adapt to changes. Let us all geared toward positive change and development.
MedMarathon: Medical Books Marathon is reading of medical books that challenges the ability of a student to gain knowledge by reading and understanding.
Is this doable or a sign of insanity?
Climate change started years ago and it is still happening now. There were many actions taken by the World Health Organization and United Nations in creating a sustainable solutions.
Recently, the nations of the world gathered in Paris to address the issue about climate change. They emphasized that the effects were affecting our health.
We are no spared from the effects of Climate change. It is a long standing problem that we must give attention.
Death toll due to environmental causes is about 23% of the global population. Most of the deaths came from Southeast Asian Region followed by Western Pacific Region and African Region. These areas have more developing countries than developed ones which only shows that the effects of climate change in developing countries are devastating than the first class nations.
It is just unfair because of the fact that most developed nations where much higher polutions came from contributing the most to climate change doesn’t felt the effects of their doing rather the poor and vulnerable countries suffers in their behalfs.
Hoping that this will be an eye opener for countries which have polutants greater than most of the countries to unite and do something about the polutions problems in their own countries.
